The Department of Mechanical Engineering has been functioning since the inception of the Institute i.e, 1995 and is offering UG : B.Tech course in Mechanical Engineering with an intake of 180 & PG : M.Tech in Machine Design with an intake of 18. Department has been accredited by NBA (Tier-I). The department has been recognized as a research center by JNTUA-Anantapur to carry out Ph.D Program on regular basis. The Department has completed research projects worth of Rs. 2.00 crores.

The department is functioning under the dynamic leadership of Dr. K. Thirupathi Reddy and long-lasting highly qualified faculty having Ph.D from IISc, IIT, NIT and other reputed institutions and Non-Teaching staff in all streams of Mechanical Engineering. Majority of the faculty members have doctoral degrees and rest are pursuing their Ph.Ds. The department was well equipped with state of art of infrastructure in all the laboratories. The modernization of the laboratories has been carried out through AICTE funds under MODROBS / RPS scheme.

The department is extending the research facilities for the consultancy works in the areas of:

  • Design and Development of Composite Materials.

  • Testing of alternative fuels for IC Engines.

  • Energy auditing (BY certified Energy auditor).

  • Testing of Solar Thermal Systems (Water Heaters/ Steam generators/ Air Heaters).

Department is extending research facilities available to the research scholars in the areas of design, development and performance evaluation of composite materials, Performance evaluation of alternative fuels for IC Engines, Refrigeration & Air conditioning and renewable energy sources.

Department of Mechanical Engineering has established an incubation center to encourage the students in entrepreneurship in the areas of post harvest losses reduction by using solar energy and to promote entrepreneurs to develop protocol for method of extraction of soymilk from soybean.

The faculty members of the department have published good number of publications in web of sciences indexed journals,Scopus Indexed Journals and other International Journals. The faculty members of the department have submitted Research Project proposals to different funding agencies like ISRO, DST-SERB, ICAR, DST-SERI, AICTE & UGC etc. The department is extending research facilities to the students for the incubation of their thoughts at the incubation center.

Students of the department are encouraged to participate in national and international level symposiums, conferences, seminar, short term training programs and . workshops.Students are encouraged to participate in smart India Hackathon and Project Expo. Good number of students have participated and won prizes in different events/ sports organized by the reputed institutions and universities.
